Taylor Hall Selected for the All-Star Game

HallCaptain

Taylor Hall has been selected to represent the Oilers at the 2015-16 All Star Game. He will be the only Oiler playing in the game despite Leon Draisaitl arguably deserving a chance to be there as well.

While I personally don’t care about the All Star Game, and don’t plan on watching it, I do think it’s funny how much controversy there seems to be about who’s going and who is not. To me, it’s hilarious how angry some people are that John Scott is going and Sidney Crosby is not. If I were a betting man, which I am, I’d guess that Crosby is actually relieved that he doesn’t have to go. I’m guessing he’ll look forward to the vacation he gets to go on during the All Star Break.

On the Oilers’ side of things, I think Draisaitl has certainly played well enough to be included but I don’t see it as a big deal that he won’t be there. This is Draisaitl’s first (mostly) full season in the NHL and he will have plenty of chances to lose his chance at a January vacation to go play in the All Star Game. Is he better than John Scott? Absolutely, but that’s not how the rules were set up by the NHL. John Scott got the votes and Draisaitl did not. He will have his chance to go in the future, I’m sure of that.

Will you be watching the All Star Game? Do you even care? Let me know in the comments section.

I would bet Hall would rather be on the beach somewhere in Mexico, than going to Bettmans Gong show!Although the strip in Nashville, is one of the best in America loaded with country music clubs and bars.

The NHL should change reference from All Star Game to All Star Event.

After all this is what it is, to see a lot of great players showing their skills in the skills competition.

I am looking forward to the 3 on 3 as that should be played all out by the players and be very exciting.

Sure it is all about the money but so what. The NHL is s professional sport.

I can’t believe all the negative comments on ON regarding this.

I am going to have fun with the All Star Event.

I think Atlantic has the best D for 3-on-3. I think Central has the best forwards including 2 pairs that play with each other all the time so that could be a huge advantage. And I’m leaning to Metro for best goalies.I’m betting on Atlantic overall though. I feel for the goalies in this format. It was bad enough at 5-on-5 in all star games, but 3-on-3 it will be a shooting gallery of end-to-end chances.

People did nohing but bash the all star game before Scott was ever in the running. It’s always been a joke so I don’t see why people would care now who’s in it.

People just deciding to take things too seriously.

I believe most NHL contacts have a bonus structure that includes a big pay day if they go to the all star game, John Scott’s probably isn’t any different.

Or is that if they get voted a first or second team all star at the end of the year?

You guys really are a total buzz-kill. You could do so much with the new format of this game. 3 on 3 can get the goalies a lot more involved in starting the rushand breakouts, heck you could even see one attempt to lead the rush up ice! Who knows? Maybe Scott will come out in goalie equipment? I bet Johnny Quick has some skills as a forward!

Each team should host a skill competition and send there top representatives to the skills competition. It would give some exposure to the unsung heroes. We would know who really is the fastest skater, who has the hardest shot…etc.

So, I’ve got an off topic discussion. Lecaviler is available, yes he has a 4.5 hit for this year and next, but I wonder if PC has thought about Vinny for Fayne or Ference, then Reinhart can get called back up. Could use the experience even at 4th line, plus he did win a cup. By the sound of it VC just wants to play hockey.

Trash away if you must, lol!

I really don’t understand the thinking of some Oilers fans here. We chased a young 4.8M centre out of here a year ago, and now we want to acquire an old 4.5M centre who has worse production?

  • pkam

Best news of the day for one very deserving Oiler. Hall has really come alive this year (all over the ice), in his play being coached by McLellan. Hopefully he will start getting the respect around the league that he has earned. Congrats to Hallsy!!!!!!

Remember when in November people were calling Taylor a “cancer”? Those were good times. I wonder where those guys are now? And do they still believe that?

  • TartanArmy

If the all-star game wasn’t a joke before, it is even more so now. Back in the old Campbell vs. Wales days, guys played hard in a much more serious game. It meant much more to get picked to play. Now we get Jon Scott appreciation night….what a farce.

Why does the NHL even have an all star game?

Other professional sports leagues may have such an event but the high level intensity and speed of hockey does not lend itself to this type of display.

Years ago it was interesting when the All Stars played against the previous year’s Stanley Cup Champs. Back then you had far less exposure to the players as the media consisted of HNIC and newspapers. The result was that you had limited coverage of the NHL stars.

Today I seriously wonder why anybody would even watch this type of circus. What, the teams and players don’t make enough money and we need to have a charity event for them. Yeah right.
