The Oilers got destroyed in back-to-back games this past weekend. Steve Dangle planned on talking about their futility today but a little research changed his mind. Here’s why Dangle thinks the Oilers are actually alright.
Didn’t take the time to watch. If the article has nothing to do with a major trade taking place to fix this sh!t show, then I have no interest or patience. Even seeing Schultz on waivers would improve my mood.
I am not in a humorous mood when it comes to the Oilers!!
I struggle with the “be patient” part myself but I have to keep telling myself that Chiarelli and McLellan are less than one year on the job, and that it was Katz’s perplexing support of inept managers like Tambellini and MacTavish who in turn supported inept coaches like Eakins that led us up to this point.
It was like we started digging ourselves into a hole in 2007 and didn’t stop until 2015 when somebody finally took the shovel out of our hands.
Quick fixes are not coming but I am more confident that there will be Oiler playoff hockey in the next few years with Chiarelli and McLellan on the job as the decision-makers. I will feel even better once MacTavish and Howson are out the door and no longer affecting decisions on players, especially on defence.
Thanks to Steve for the outsiders perspective. Sometimes when you are standing in a field of sh!t you forget that there are flowers coming up all around you.
I’m past the “sunny days” rhetoric like a lot of folks.
If the Leafs can move Clarkson and Phaneuf in consecutive years without retaining salary, set themselves up to do well in the upcoming lottery, and set themselves up for a serious run at Stamkos, the “be patient” plan is just a “do nothing” plan with better labelling.
I didn’t think they would be a playoff team, but I expected they would be better. I expected Chiarelli would make some decent trades to improve the team. Nope.
DEAR HEAVENS I TREMBLE IN FEAR OF WHAT YOU MIGHT SAY IN YOUR DAILY RANT! IN FACT I WILL SIT AND WAIT HERE FOR 23 ODD HOURS TO BE THE FIRST TO HEAR TOMORROWS NEWS
I was not expecting the Oilers to trade their useless parts for other assets but after the leafs unloaded Phaneuf anything is possible.
I didn’t think Schultz, Nik, Fayne or Yak would fetch anything due to being just bad players or that Eberle would get assets due to his soft play and 6M contract but if Phaneuf can be traded so can these guys.
Yeahhh I messed that up it is a unique situation tho where Ottawa had enough bad contracts to send back and the leafs are going full tank so they don’t care that they are spending 11 mill on garbage next year
The Blues need scoring bad. The most under-rated thing about hall is his passing. A line of hall and tarasenko would help the blues a lot.
Blues would re-sign shattenkirk as he is as much a #1 as Pietro is. Maybe the Oilers have to add a C prospect (Reinhart) or a 2nd round pick but boy would that be a blockbuster and a legit one.
A trade like that can maybe even be made now with Pietro injured and the Blues needing scoring.
I’m hoping last weekend was just a blip.
I’d like to blame Montreal, specifically St Catherine street.
It’s been the undoing of many young men with less available resources.
Good to know the Oil are going in the right direction. Get back to me when they have arrived. There are no other pro-sports franchises that would continue to employ proven losers after a decade of futility.
When Katz comes out of the closet and publicly announces his team has been a failure for ten consecutive years and apologizes to loyal fans, that is when the Oil will make progress.
You can hire all the fat butt-kissers you want, they will only tell you what you want to hear. Grow a pair, look into the mirror and admit this gong-show is a record setting disaster, then actually do something about it. Start by firing the trio of clowns that have made most of the pathetic mistakes that have led to a decade of despair.
Schultz and Reinhart both benched. About time. They were both unmitigated disasters against NYI and deserve to watch from the press box for a game or two. I’m sure Chiarelli wants to showcase Schultz to trade partners but do it by playing him in less games and giving him third pairing minutes against softer opponents or strong zone starts. The kid is a sinking like a stone and looks completely uninterested out there while being paid close to $4M per year. You would think that pride would kick in at some point.
I know it’s hard to do as a fan, but we all should take a step back and appreciate, how diffucult being an NHL G.M. really is.Competing for the player 30 other G.M.’s want and hoping the player picks your team. Then if you do land your guy, you hope his stats stay the same. It really is a gamble each and every trade you make. We have seen numerous times how a player can be great on one team and lousy on another. Much easier on Xbox NHL 16′ or armchair G.M.’s.
Another apologist loser post. We should feel sorry for guys making millions of dollars to run a sports team? Ya, ok. Losing GM’s find it difficult because they are not as good at what they do as the others. There are winners out there. They are just nowhere around this organisation.
Exactly agree with you 100 percent, why would anybody post about how hard is it to be a GM, theres a reason peter chiarelli was signed here to get results, If you are a good GM, you get results, if you are not you will be fired soon. He better start getting some results or he will be fired again.
When the Oilers finish out of the bottom 5 of the league, then there is real progress. The main reason they improved in points from last season to this season is that Eakins was canned.
And that Dangle has got to dial it down a notch. He looks like he was going to fly right out of there. Trying a bit too hard.
What a load of [email protected]! Basically the oilers are visually better! Think about this, 2013-14 under Eakins the oilers finished w/ 67 points, we are on pace for 71 this season! 4 point improvement from 2 years ago under our new wizard head coach and GM. Classic oilers. Don’t trade anyone or do anything to shake up the roster because we’re just about to turn that corner.
The very fact that Jultz is benched has me dancing a jig. To actually get to that point, where McT’s Golden Boy Norris bound hero is benched is actually a MONUMENTAL organizational shift, is beyond sad but it is real.
That fact alone gives me the tinest sliver of hope.
Do we finally have a coach who has the balls to flip the bird to the old boys club, (that’s you McT & Klowe), who’ve led this team on a ten year march to oblivion?
Great post, love the optimism. I know Oilers fans are tired of hearing ‘visually better’ but the Oilers are more than that. They are better. Are they missing some pieces? Of course, butI don’t see them being that far off from beibng a playoff team. A healthy McDavid and Klefbom and a top RHD would make this team a playoff team. Cup contender? Not quite yet, but they are on the right track. Chiarelli is still cleaning up mistakes of GMs past, and MacLellan is reinstilling confidence back into a group that lost it all during the Eakins era. Playoffs next year.
Im sorry but its too late for visually better when you are a 10 year sad sack no playoffs. Its all about results and until there is nothing is better. Stop giving oilers management a pass
When I read all this negative crap coming back from the Oilers so called “fans” I start to think we deserve all the losing. If you tell you kid enough that he’s a piece of sh#t, the will start to believe it. I’m depressed our team isn’t doing better, but maybe a little encouragement would help more than all of this constant name calling.

Sorry, patience is long gone!!
Here’s the summary:
1) McDavid!
2) Drai!
3) Injuries π
4) Nurse!
5) Better than last year π
More of the “be patient” claptrap.

Another entitled and indignant comment. If you didn’t take the time to watch then don’t take the time to comment and add nothing.
I DONT CARE WHAT RANDAMANS SAID IN THE PREVIOUS COMMENT THANK YOU STEEEEEEEVE
@ Wanye,
You should actually be happy with the fact that I left Eberle out of my morning rant.
DEAR HEAVENS I TREMBLE IN FEAR OF WHAT YOU MIGHT SAY IN YOUR DAILY RANT! IN FACT I WILL SIT AND WAIT HERE FOR 23 ODD HOURS TO BE THE FIRST TO HEAR TOMORROWS NEWS
Love Steve Dangle. that dude is awesome. watch LFR every game… and i dont even like the leafs. thanks for posting.
I was not expecting the Oilers to trade their useless parts for other assets but after the leafs unloaded Phaneuf anything is possible.

Come on PC get on with it and do something.
Leafs could only make that trade cuz they could eat all the salary coming back.
Leafs are trading away 33M in future contracts and taking 11M back… What salary are they eating?
Yeahhh I messed that up it is a unique situation tho where Ottawa had enough bad contracts to send back and the leafs are going full tank so they don’t care that they are spending 11 mill on garbage next year
I will trade you a first-line Joe Colborne for your used Yakupov.
I will get bashed for this but that is okay. I am not a hall hater, far from it actually but Hall is the one piece that can bring us a #1 D-Man.
Perhaps PC should see if DA would be willing to trade Pietrangelo for Hall. Both with 4 years left after this season, cap hits of 6.5 and 6.0
I don’t think and team would trade a #1D-man for a #1 winger.
“any” instead of “and”

You fill a hole and open a new one, who takes Hall’s place, Yakupov? The guy has less hockey sense then a gorilla on skates.
There are roughly 15 #1 D men in the league and no team is trading theirs for Hall.
Loved the video.
Yes the team got whaled on this past weekend, but please consider 3 things:
1. We have McDavid.
2. Being out of it in February is way better than being out of it in November.
3. It’s a beautiful day. Go outside or something.
4. Schultz is scratched tonight.
Thx for the video Steve. Its hard being positive after an 8-1 shellacking but we’re Oiler fans, we’ve been through this a time or two.
Im still hopeful for an 82 point season. #GOilers
Video! Ain’t nobody got time for that.
I’m hoping last weekend was just a blip.

Schultz scratched = Oilers win
So glad this finally happened.
Schultz and Reinhart both benched. About time. They were both unmitigated disasters against NYI and deserve to watch from the press box for a game or two. About fricken time, how many goals was he on the ice for this past weekend? 9 out of 13?
One day the Oilers may make a trade to bring in defencive help……one day.
Steve Dangle.
That’s the hockey version of a porn name.
Well done Steve.

No guarantees in real life π

The core cant be touched, LOL, same old song,
Renaud Lavoie β@renlavoietva 3m3 minutes ago
Hearing that #oilers Justin Schultz being scratch tonight vs #devils might be trade related. #tvasports
I’ll take another 8-1 loss if this is true.
To anyone that thinks that any of the forwards not named McDavid are untouchable in a trade:
The Columbus Blue Jackets have scored more goals than us this season!!!
How is that possible with all these supposed offensive superstars we have.
Trade the mall.
How does trading West Edmonton mall help the defence.
This video rant mentioning injuries is typical.. All that does is excuse the current players from what they are doing on the ice.
The very fact that Jultz is benched has me dancing a jig. To actually get to that point, where McT’s Golden Boy Norris bound hero is benched is actually a MONUMENTAL organizational shift, is beyond sad but it is real.

This actually did not help.
Good try, good effort Steve but alasβ¦β¦. they are who we thought they were and this weekend was verification.
sadly
How ironic you would use the word “defense” and “Oilers” in the same sentence.
Defend a team that is considered an embarrassment to an entire league after ten years of losing. Good luck with that.

Ahh yes. “What do you expect?” and ‘RELAX, be patient’ in the same video, created by someone who is both 22 and finding himself pretty clever.
Spoiler: Not clever.
Advice: Fire your editor.
P.S. This is what we call “click bait” in the biz.
How is that Biz anyways?

Ridiculous rationalization!
I get the optimism but still 30th? When will this nightmare end.
