Welcome to the PoolParty

When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. When Columbus doesn’t draft Jesse Puljujarvi, and a potential second overall falls to fourth, YOU GET UP ON THAT STAGE AND YOU DRAFT LIKE YOU’VE NEVER DRAFTED BEFORE! Do we send Columbus a thank you letter? Bah… forget it.

Just under two months ago, OilersNation was heartbroken after the Oilers lost the draft lottery and fell two spots to pick fourth overall in the 2016 NHL Draft. But then, on Friday, the hockey gods smiled upon us, handing us a gift that we never imagined to be possible. Even when we lose the lottery, we still win the lottery player.

As you all know, we threw an another awesome Draft Party at the Pint Downtown on Friday night, and, thanks to Columbus, it only took the first three picks to make me lose my voice. We weren’t the only ones thrilled though, PoolParty himself had a hard time keeping his excitement contained. Not to mention, he dropped a hilariously awesome quote in a post-draft interview…

Better yet, here is the Oilers reaction at Columbus picking Pierre-Luc Dubois.

I was mainly inspired to write this article because I found a picture of Puljujarvi’s mullet when he was a kid, and I thought the world needed to see it. He may have had the best hockey hair I’ve ever seen, and he was only 10 years old. Better yet, now that we know the potential his hair holds, I encourage everyone to join me in trying to get him to bring the mullet back. Maybe it can be a playoff thing? Dare to dream.

Since we’re reminiscing about Puljujarvi’s hair, we must also take a minute to remember when Jesse dressed up as an old man, and absolutely destroyed little kids that were trying to play some puck. If I had the skillset he has, there’s no question I wouldn’t be doing the same thing. Here’s the video for those who haven’t seen it.

I, along with the rest of the world, am thrilled about the idea of watching Puljujarvi playing alongside Connor McDavid for the next 15 years. Throw in a potential Milan Lucic signing on July 1st, and we may be seeing the best line combination the Oilers have iced in years.

Also, be sure to also keep an eye out for a slick new PoolParty shirt that we have brewing. It could be a game changer.

If Nuge is gone in a trde or Draisaitl for the matter, what would it take to get Boyle out of Tampa as a 3LC.

Marron Boyle Kassian line 3. That might be the biggest line in hockey and would be a good third line operating at 5 million per year.

The other option if we find 2 RHD is a fayne for bozak swap.

I wouldn’t mind that move. I’m also a Penguins fan and Boyle was really good in the playoffs against them.

Big and mean mofo and he showed some skill. Good cap hit too.

If someone had told me this was even a remote possibility some 14 months ago, I would’ve figured they probably also believed that a Leafs/Canucks Stanley Cup Final was a possibility too!!

Crazy good way to open a new barn! Maybe this IS the year?!?!

      • I look forward to the day he is no longer in the picture. His mere presence is still holding this team back, as is K Lowe and Howson. Thought he was leaving to run some motion picture company for Katz? Guess that business does not have an automatic return generated by taxpayers and fans so maybe they finally figured out he is not qualified for that position either?

The Columbus Blue Jackets have agreed to a six-year, $32.4 million contract extension with defenceman Seth Jones. The deal works out to $5.4 million per season.

Oilers hit draft fortune at least twice this summer: Puljujarvi is obvious, but Benson is also just a great pick. It’ll be interesting to see how quickly he gets to the NHL. Recovered from injury, I’m expecting him to open it up in junior this season.

It’s. Lucic and 97 and JP. Wow

I don’t know who is luckier. Lucic and JP or the fans.

      Gretzky to Kurri Goal

      McDavid to JP Goal

Oh, Meet Lucic if you touch 97.

Line 3 is like Maroon, Nuge, Kassian??

      Line 1 Hall, Leon, Ebs

      Is it October yet?
