The Edmonton Oilers jersey release… for real this time.

Tonight, the new Oilers jerseys dropped and I want to know whether you’re buying or selling.

Over the weekend, a picture of the new Oilers jerseys was leaked by a sports blog and it set the Internet ablaze. When I posted those leaked pictures here on Saturday morning we weren’t really sure whether what we were looking at was our new threads or just fake news. Were those prototypes? Were they just fakes? What was the deal with that thick, white collar? We really didn’t have much to go on apart from the teasers that Adidas has put out over the past couple weeks, but that all changed tonight with the official release.

While the new jersey is similar to the one that leaked over the weekend, I was happy to see that the Oilers bailed on that wide white collar that was laughing stock of social media and went with something thinner and more subtle. That leaked jersey looked like something you’d order from $12 from a Craigslist ad. Even though there’s still a sliver of the white collar showing it’s not nearly as wide and grotesque as the leaked pictures had shown. I’m not sure what I think about the thin striping around the arms, and it’s going to take me a while to get over losing the blue and orange beauties, but I think this jersey¬†could grow on me.

WHAT SAY YOU?

Now that you’ve seen the real, official jerseys that the Oilers are rolling with I want to know what you think. The prototype/fakies that I posted on Saturday didn’t get much love around these parts and I’m curious to know what you guys think of this new version. What say you, Nation?

I don’t like it today. Maybe by Xmas it will have grown on me. Maybe not. The only conclusion that I have come too is that everytime the NHL changes companies, the end product looks cheap and thrown together for the Oilers. If we’re celebrating a cup or two or three over the next few years, then who cares what the jersey looks like.

On the main page, there’s an article by LT, and a picture of McDavid. It lets you go look at the two jerseys side by side.

Last year’s jersey is far superior.

  • Boom76

I feel like I’m looking at a film negative of what I wish were their white, 1983-90 home jerseys that hoisted the cup 5 times. So no, I don’t like them at all

It’s not really a big deal to me, but these jerseys look terrible. The thin pansy-ass stripes on the arms look like something a high school mother would sow together for her kid in the school play. Adidas won’t be getting any shekels from me.

Ohhh Oilers! So many good things this past season. The arena, the team, the renewed hockey vibe around town. But, these jerseys? Reminds me of when I ate five creamsicles as a kid….and puked them all up. Seriously, you guys hit the freakin’ nail on the head with those orange-gasmic beauties last year. And now, you give us this? This is the colour of Grandma’s golf shorts, not men’s hockey jerseys.

I was hoping for more but it’s decent. Would not buy one though and suspect they’ll get back to the classic look in a couple of years. The thin striping is my main criticism.

  • Oilerchild77

Why did they need to change them? Is there some sort of proprietary conflict? At any rate, I don’t like them. I say go back to the ones they wore in ’06

  • Barf. Thank God I bought a jersey last year. I hate the navy blue so dark it looks black, the white line around the collar, the loss of the orange numbers on the shoulders, the crappy thin lines. At least they put the right logo on the jersey.

Welcome Sportsfans to Reebok jersey 2.0!! Are you kidding me?? What a piece of crap!! I have to wonder if the Oiler brass have any input or a final say in the end product. If they did and actually gave this abomination their seal of approval than their taste is in their butt ( Hello Daryl K.) But why should we be surprised by this Sports fans? Owners and professional teams in general are nothing more than cheap whores: Only seeing the $$$ signs and doing whatever the corporations want just to line their pockets. I’ve been an Oiler fan from the WHA days. The Oiler Unis from the dynasty years as well as the unis with the copper were my favorites. I even warmed up to the Orange crush unis from last year. It just seem they’re going in the wrong direction (again).

Enough negative feed back on here yet? Holy crap what a bunch of whiners, I heard the same things when the orange reebok jerseys came out and now every one is saying the same thing about these jerseys, I actually like the new jerseys, and please stop saying that your not going to get a new jersey cause cause everyone knows that you are gonna get it anyways

    • Not a First Tier Fan

Starts off by falling everyone with a contradictory opinion a whiner then finishes by whining about folks saying they won’t buy a jersey… Hypocrite much?

I assure you, when I say I won’t buy something I mean it. This candy-striped nerd-jersey won’t be finding a home in my collection. Maybe next year’s will be better…

    • socaldave

I honestly don’t know a single person who didn’t like the orange 3rd jerseys when they came out. It’s the only one I’ve ever actually gotten a name/number on the back of.

  • Keg on Legs

The stripes seem too far apart, but then I looked again and I see the Addidas 3-stripes, good marketing for them, not so much for us, but these things will still sell like hotcakes, Book It!!

  • Crazy Pedestrian

Honestly, they should’ve just kept the same colour scheme/style as the previous jerseys, just move the jersey numbers from the shoulders to the arms, maybe put the oil logo on the shoulders instead and that would’ve made them perfect.

  • Marshall Law

The only mistake was made months ago when they chose orange over blue as their primary colour. The orange has always been a gimmick.
As far as the orange goes, this is actually a cleaner look than the previous version, but the Oilers’ blue was one of the best uniforms in sports. I’ll probably just wait until they bring that one back.

  • Neilio

The shade of Orange looks like Cream of Tomato soup. Its not a sporting color, IMO. The blue probably looks nice in person, but it will look black most of the time. On TV, or, I don’t know, in almost every picture I’ve seen of it… Are we the Flyers?
Not a fan of the white collar, not just because of the look, but also if you buy this jersey, that white could turn brownish eventually, after rubbing against your neck. Unless you wash it every time you use it. Which ages the jersey fast.
I’ll skip this round of jerseys. Hopefully the team listens to the fans, or at least watches the jersey sales drop, and adjusts the color scheme.

  • Slipknot 8

This jersey is going to look black on TV, book it! Its a big step behind, good thing is the Oilers will change it when it stops selling like the old orange, which out sold both the whites & Blues combined.
