Weekend Update: January 14th, 2018

Trade business in the WHL picked up this week. Newest Oilers prospect Cameron Hebig found himself in Regina with the Pats and Stuart Skinner has a new home in Swift Current. Skinner took no time at all getting used to a team in front of him that can play a more complete game, finishing the week with a shutout and a shiny new 0.050 GAA. Yamamoto returned this week from the injury he suffered in the final minutes of Team USA’s loss to Sweden with a solid 4 point effort for Spokane. Finally in Bakersfield, Laurent Brossoit is fitting in in his old stomping grounds well with three games under his belt and a .910 SV%.

I don’t know how hard it is, but could we find out the NHLE for these prospects?

I am not sure if Bear is performing well, or he needs another season or two in the AHL before he’s given an opportunity.

    • OriginalPouzar

Bear is performing well but he is also a rookie pro and has only played 20 pro games coming off a fairly serious injury.

He will almost definitely need at least another year in the AHL. He is developing well but is not a lock to have an NHL career. He is in the proper league. Here is hoping he has a good camp in the fall and, with the influx of talent to Bakersfield next season (Benson, Hebig and maybe Yamamoto), he should get off to a strong start and potentially see some time as an injury call-up.

No need to rush any of these defence prospects.

  • OriginalPouzar

Graham McPhee had 2 goals for Boston College yesterday.

Speaking of BC, Rasanen is nursing a lower body injury – expected by on the 23rd. I really liked how he played in Buffalo at the WJHC.

Miles to go and a long-shot to have an NHL career but he seems like and all-situations center. Responsible, smart, some puck skills and a nose for the net (he really liked to go to the front of the net).

I’ve got dreams of him being the 3C of the future. At least 3 years away or so.

  • OriginalPouzar

Benson has cooled off a bit (first 3 game pointless streak of the year) but Yamamoto is starting to produce in the 2nd half.

A couple more games for Maksimov on his 4 game suspension. It really is too bad he got suspended – he was hot as hell and scoring at a goal a game pace (5th in the OHL in goals with 3 less games played than 4 of the guys ahead of him – 2 of which were 2nd round picks and one an over-ager).

    Kril is killing it.

Samorukov is having an offensive spike the last month and has a ton of confidence coming off a strong WJHC.

I’ve got big plans for Dimitri in the future.
