Oilers Prospect Update: Dropping Like Flies

This week in your update is the beginning of the end of the season for the most part. Thankfully the ECHL affliate has some playoff hockey coming but all but two (Maksimov and Skinner) of the Oilers prospects have been eliminated from their CHL playoffs.

The Condors, like the Oilers are officially eliminated from the Calder Cup playoffs. They have three games remaining this week and then will pack it in for the summer.

In the ECHL the Wichita Thunder will be taking on the Colorado Eagles in the first round of the playoffs. That series kicks off on April 15th.

As the playoffs end for the CHL prospects pool, guys like Benson and Samorukov have been assigned to the AHL. Baggedmilk wrote about those transactions and the injury to Kailer Yamamoto.

Missed last week was Ostap Safin’s debut with the Bakersfield Condors. Credit to reader, JayTee for noticing.

There is plenty of criticism to go around regarding the results of the season, however I have been impressed with the improvement in scouting and trades to improve the prospect pool. Chiarelli deserves credit for this.

  • Connor McFly

I’m a long way from giving Chiarelli any credit at this point. I’m from Missouri on this point so show me results. Anyone can shuffle players around at the bottom of the organization. By the time we learn anthing about these prospects Chia will humping his butt down the QE2. He needs to have a highly profitable off-season this year. If he is a cat with nine lives he is now in the ICU on a respirator. His blunders have cost Katz multiple millions. I don’t see Katz allowing this to continue. He has dug the Oil into a huge hole that will take a smart GM some time to repair.

Absolutely correct…..where this idea comes from that suggests the prospect pool is improved is beyond me. It’s humerus that people think having a 28th overall first round pick in the AHL is better than having a Taylor Hall/Drai/Nurse/etc on the big team is laughable.

      • Glencontrolurstik

Give it up,… HALL DIDN’T BELONG ON THIS TEAM… Full stop:
This is McDavids team now, Hall didn’t & wouldn’t fit.
Bonus is, we got Larson for him.
