(Video) Dustin Nielson talks Colton Parayko, 10th overall pick, and Milan Lucic

Dustin Nielson went live on our Facebook page again this afternoon and answered your questions from Dallas as we inch closer to the first round of the NHL Draft. This time around, he talked about the Parayko rumours, Lucic’s agent denying that he requested a trade, and anything else he could think about before the first round gets started.

Topics of discussions:

  • The Colton Parayko rumours and what the Oilers would have to give up to make it happen.
  • Milan Lucic’s agent said that he hasn’t asked for a trade. Do we believe it?
  • Why are people shying away from Adam Boqvist? Is it merited?
  • Who does Dusty think will slide out of the top nine? Evan Bouchard? Boqvist? Someone else?
  • Should the Oilers be open to trading Jesse Puljujarvi?
  • What would it take for the Oilers to move up in the first round tonight?

Trading J.P. would be absolutely stupid.
Lucic’s agent denial of trade request because no one will take him and the market is cold and they know he will be back in Edmonton.
I would trade the 10th overall for the right trade, if it can land you Parayko by adding Yamamoto and Russell or Sekera but not Klefbom or Nurse otherwise pick Wahlstrom or Boqvist not Hayton or Smith.

  • Shane

I doubt they trade Talbot but would you do it if you knew Lehner would sign here? Maybe Talbot as a sweetner to Nurse or Klefbom for a big fish #1 dman? If I squint really tight I could maybe see it.

      • Shane

Ya I did. He said it makes no sense because there’s no good free agent goalies. I think he forgot Lehners not going to be resigned by Buffalo (RFA) and he had a better career than Talbot. Its probably a wash who’s better now but Chiarelli has to be creative for cap salary this year and Talbot plus Nurse or Klefbom is 8.5-10 million out and Lehner plus Parayko is about the same in. Like I said just spitballing.

Puljujarvi traded? We can only hope as his trade value far exceeds his on ice performance. He may develop, he may not but the smart move is for the oilers to not take his development risk at this stage and get a more blue chip asset with a lower ceiling that can deliver. A 20 goal man for the right wing would be ideal.
