We’ve talked about this endlessly but I just can’t stop thinking about it. Connor McDavid is already the best player on the universe. He’s said time and time again that he wants to become an even BETTER player and you always end up snickering to yourself because you think: “how can the best player we’ve ever seen become even MORE skilled?”
Well Ryan Nugent-Hopkins just confirmed that the best player in the world is getting better, and he’s seen it with his own eyes.
"I've been skating with him for the last couple weeks & I think he's gotten even faster." @RNH_93 on @cmcdavid97, says he loves playing on the captain's left wing but is always ready to line up at centre if called upon pic.twitter.com/iuKu3HMJVd

As the tweet says, Nuge is currently in Red Deer with some team executives doing some business and when asked about Connor McDavid, he said he thinks Davo is getting even faster. As if we needed to hear any more quotes about Connor McDavid to make us more excited for the season. It’s wild to think the fastest player in the NHL right now is only 21. When Connor adds some old man muscle onto his legs he’s going to be 1000x faster and all of our TV’s are going to implode.
With Nuge confirming the fact that Connor is indeed getting faster, we know he’s well on his way to shattering his fastest skater time from last year at the All-Star game and scoring 95 goals this season. The Connor McDavid hype train is leaving the station. You’ll be missing out this season if you don’t hop on it with me.
Someone did a screen shot of Peter and Bob’s face then added the “I think he’s even faster” quote to it. I’ve made it clear here. I love the work Peter has done. I love how he’s built this team to compete within the Pacific division and western conference, but even I got a chuckle out of what he was going for with that tweet.
Whoa whoa whoa, slow down on the “best player we’ve ever seen” stuff; some of us are old enough to have seen Gretzky play. But I’m still pretty excited to see how good this kid will be. Even now I can only compare him to players currently in the HHOF, I haven’t seen a player with this much talent and skill since Lemieux.
You’re right. This article means no disrespect to the Great One!
Choo Chooo!!!
Hey ther…I have watched Gretzky play since 78 in the WHA, and since 79-80 when the Oilers began their dynasty and for years I have thought the Great One to be almost untouchable for comparisons as the best centre in hockey with Mario Lemieux the closest by not a far margin. But Connor blows my mind with his rocket speed and stick handling to a level I once thought impossible to either Gretz or Super Mario. He will one day reach records that will last (maybe not as many as Gretzky) and will be a Hall of Famer one day. I always never forget to thank the Hockey Gods for bringing him to Edmonton. I will say that his speed goal against Calgary last year and his five point (4 goals) night against Tampa/Stamos was absolutely elite… and I cannot wait to see more of those type goals and games. I believe this year he is going to start leading this Team more so than before. I am also looking forward to him breaking that speed skating record at the All Star wkd this coming year. Go Connor and please (to the Hockey Gods) let the Oil get back into the playoffs this coming season.
It’s mind numbing he’s getting fast.
If one of these crappy ‘new age’ aggitators takes out McDavid I will whole-heartedly support a Doug Ford-ian return to the days of the goon. Touch McDavid, get fed your genitals. On television. For your kids to see. I don’t think I’m going overboard here. Gotta go, my online time is up here at the hospital.
That’s why having Lucic is soooo valuable. His presence alone stops anyone from even thinking about this kind of stuff. In my opinion Lucic is worth every penny of that $6million he makes for that reason alone.
Ya know (to media and fans) …. Connor has been in this league going now four years and he absolutely should have an iconic nickname!!!!! There have been so many honorable nicknmames from that of the Great One, Super Mario, the Great 8, the Rocket (Bure, Maurice Richard), etc., and it’s time to give an iconic name to this elite fabulous young man/player. I like Conn-Air and Airforce One as examples (though the latter is towards American than Canadian). This player deserves a nickname that establishes his speed, his skill, and elite abilties. What say you… true Oiler and hockey fans???
Wheels. It’s simple and classic.
