Edmonton Oilers announce pre-season schedule

The Edmonton Oilers released their pre-season schedule for 2019-20 and it got me all kinds of excited that we’re actually inching closer to the start of a new year. New schedule for a new era — I like it.

Kicking off their 2019-20 campaign with a mid-September matchup against the Winnipeg Jets, the Oilers will play seven pre-season games in total with four of those matches happening at Rogers Place and three against in other Western Canadian cities. The Oilers will play two games against the Jets, two against Vancouver, two against Calgary, and one against Arizona as they pare down the roster and get set to avenge a second-straight playoffs-less season. Honestly, I never thought I’d be so excited about seeing a pre-season schedule come but here we are — I couldn’t help but feel excited about moving forward in the Old Dutch era.

Check out the schedule below:

DATE OPPONENT VENUE TIME
Monday, Sept. 16 Winnipeg Jets Rogers Place 7 PM
Tuesday, Sept. 17 @ Vancouver Canucks Rogers Arena 8 PM
Thursday, Sept. 19 Vancouver Canucks Rogers Place 7 PM
Friday, Sept. 20 Calgary Flames Rogers Place 7 PM
Tuesday, Sept. 24 Arizona Coyotes Rogers Place 7 PM
Thursday, Sept. 26 @ Winnipeg Jets Bell MTS Place 6 PM
Saturday, Sept. 28 @ Calgary Flames Scotiabank Saddledome 7 PM

According to the Oilers’ site, ticket details for the pre-season games at Rogers Place will be released at some point in July, likely when the regular season details come out. Is it October yet?

Would be nice if Oilers, Flames, Canucks and Jets would bring back the rookie tournament. Wonder how difficult the logistics of setting up a Memorial cup style tournament would be. Each team gets min 3 games to see their young guns plus players would likely thrive in the tournament environment.

In their infinite wisdom, the new regime Oilers braintrust is disrespecting the fans and scheduling a preseason game on September 20. This is the same night and time as the Eskimos are playing at Commonwealth Stadium. I just sent a scathing email to the Oilers. Obviously the “new regime” is the same as old one and just plays lip service to the fans. Unbelievably bad decision!! Can’t wait to see the full schedule to see what other games are double booked!!

We need to shorten the season, my thoughts are of a 7 game preseason, 75 regular season games and making the first 2 rounds of the playoffs best of 5’s.
