After dismantling the Oilers in a slow, painful process for all, noted hockey man and former Edmonton Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli may not be our of a job much longer.
Multiple reports came out Thursday night suggesting Chiarelli is in discussions with multiple front offices across the league.
Sportsnet’s Andrew Walker was first to report on the matter, stating the Vancouver Canucks expresses interest, while insider Pierre LeBrun later started multiple teams were showing interest.
Have been told that it's possible Peter Chiarelli winds up joining #Canucks in some capacity.

There's been some talk of Peter Chiarelli perhaps joining the Canucks front office under Jim Benning, both of whom worked together in Boston. They are indeed talking about that, however, Chiarelli is also talking to other NHL front offices…

The Canucks don’t have any vacant front office positions, so if he were to go to Vancouver one would imagine it would be in an advisory role.
Although the Oilers got their first taste of the playoffs in over a decade, it’s clear Chiarelli really blew things in Edmonton.
So why on earth do people want to hire him?
Oh, right.
Stanley Cup Champion. Repeat Hockey Canada executive. Noted Hockey Man.
I’m sure Peter Chiarelli is a good guy, with good intentions, but in no way do I feel that he should be running show in any front office again.
Now, it’s not known exactly who (besides Vancouver, where he wouldn’t be in a forefront role) is showing the most interest, but any team giving him significant reign should strongly, strongly reconsider.
Chiarelli showed time and time again his inability to successfully manage the NHL cap both in Boston, and then again Edmonton. He valued a style of play that has gone the way of the DoDo bird, all the while undervaluing his own assets on the trade market.
I’ll be intrigued to see if he ever is able to learn from him his past mistakes.
The fact teams are showing interest in him only five-months after being fired mid-season surprises me, but it really shouldn’t.
The entirety of the NHL seems to be based in a mindset that sees teams hire people familiar to them regardless of their track records.
The Oilers are better off without Chiarelli, and another team in the league likely would be too.
Bahahaha! That’s the funniest thing I heard all week
Even funnier than Lucic for Eriksson…not by much though
Hey if PC goes to Vancouver, maybe we can send Manning there as the sweetener on the Lucic for Eriksson.
I’m not one to call names, but Benning would be stupid to hire him.
I hope jersey is interested. Wouldn’t mind get hall back at some point.
I’m not too sure why that ^ posted as a reply to RJ’s comment. But whatever. I will go with it. Bending would be stupid to hire chia so I hope jersey is interested lol.
hire him so we can fleece the Nucks on some trades!!
Please god let this be true. If so, instantly pick up the phone and see what else he’d be willing to give up for Adam Larson. That Elias Pettersson kid will look great as an Oiler (I hear he’s no good in the room) 😂
He’d be more likely to take Lucic for Ericksson and throw in a sweetner.
You know, they could be thinking, ‘hey, let’s bring this guy in and just do the exact opposite of everything he recommends’
Is it April 1st?
Maybe on the 3rd try, he has learned from his mistakes.
If you learn from your mistakes then Chirelli must be the wisest man around. You just can’t find the kind experience anywhere else!
The fact teams are considering him is exactly why it is not beyond the realm of possibility that there is a team that would want Lucic without costing the Oilers anything.
Please let him be the new GM in NJ. I have a great idea for a trade involving our third best dman for their top forward straight across.
Hahahahaha
It won’t be long before General Disappointment will be back wielding another knife causing “death by a thousand cuts”. Soon the Oilers will capitalize and win a few trades.
What’s the bet of that if/when Vancouver hires him we’re able to offload lucic to them.
This is great news. Perhaps we’ll be able to trade Brandon Manning afterall!
In medical terms, this is known as a fecal transplant
Awesome. All of our problems might be solved. Chia should be able to orchestrate something like…………….
To Vancouver – Manning, Lucic
To Edmonton – Brock Boeser, 2nd round pick in 2019 draft
As an Oilers fan, the only thing better than Vancouver hiring Chirelli would be if Calgary hired him!
Oh man. I hope he goes to Vancouver. Too bad he wouldn’t be the head guy though. Like to see him trade off Boeser and Peterson for some grinders or something like that. Good luck to them if they hire him. Not sure why anyone would value his expertise after one quick look at his moves in both Boston and Edmonton.
He would make a great advisor, I can see it now “Peter what do you think”, then do the opposite!!!!!
This is great news.
Just proves once again that in hockey as in life, stupidity is infinite!
This would be awesome. Canucks hire Chia. Chia demands they trade for Lucic and give Edmonton whatever they want to make it happen. Vancouver complies. Chia calls Nicholson and murmers “It’s done, and I’ve done all I can to reverse the damage. So you’ll call your boys off?”
Vancouver can have him. In fact, I’m sure Oilers fans would pass the hat around and cover his salary if the Canucks promised to let him take over pro scouting. Maybe we could get something for Brandon effin Manning.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the former.
– Albert Einstein
Maybe we can get Pettersson for Larsson?
What? You shut your filthy mouth.
If I want any organization interested in this guy it is the Canucks or Flames.
It would be a great move for the oilers.
In a league where Dallas Eakins is a head coach again, someone hiring Chia makes sense. Oh man, the buddy system is really holding this league back.
He did help the Oilers turn their drafting and development systems around, so if he’s put in a position to oversee changes in those areas, it might make sense for them. If he’s being brought in to help the pro side, I look forward to seeing the Canucks get fleeced for years to come.
To be honest I am not surprised.. I always felt he would get another job in a front office.. Because this is a league based on previous successes and familiarity.. Most often ppl just hire who they know not who’s best for the job (that’s how we ended up with PC in the first place) … I would be surprised however if anyone would be crazy enough to give him a GM job right away.. But let’s hope so
There is no way someone hires this guy! How do you explain this to your fan base.
