Edmonton Oilers select D Philip Broberg 8th overall

The Edmonton Oilers have selected defenceman Philip Broberg with the 8th overall pick in Friday night’s NHL Entry Draft. The six-foot, three-inch, 203 lb. left-shot rearguard played for AIK in Swedish Allsvenskan league last season, scoring nine points in 41 games.

Draft Day Thoughts…

Don’t expect the Edmonton Oilers to trade up or down from the #8 slot. We haven’t seen a team trade up or down in the top-ten since 2008. We are more likely to see a team trade the pick for an NHL player than see a team move up or down within the top ten….

The Oilers head into Friday night’s draft with six selections and while it seems crazy to spend time looking at targets for each of those picks I decided to do it anyway.

How much does a lower cap affect the Oilers?

It is absolutely crazy that we are less than 48 hours from the NHL Draft and the league still has not figured out what the salary cap ceiling will be for the upcoming season. I know the players association has some fault in this as well, but regardless of who’s fault it is, it’s absolutely…

Edmonton Oilers picks for NHL Draft weekend

The NHL Draft kicking off tonight in Vancouver, so I figured I would do a quick run through of where the Oilers will be picking in every round. Will Holland try to add picks? Will he stand pat? We’re only a few hours away from finding out. Heading into draft weekend, the Oilers currently sit…

Nielson’s Final Mock Draft

It’s a sad day, as I sit here at a Waves Coffee House in Vancouver I just realized this is my final mock draft of the season. *Single tear rolls down my face* I’ve had Kirby Dach going to the Oilers in all three of my previous mock drafts and as Britney Spears once said…
