Looking to keep their perfect start to the season going, the Oilers roll into Chicago tonight to take on a struggling Blackhawks team. While the Oilers have been doing nothing but winning, the Hawks have been doing the exact opposite. They’ve dropped three straight games to start the season and have been plagued by some inconsistent goaltending. The Oilers are coming off a win over the New York Rangers in which they played really well. They outshot and out-chanced the Rangers, got some timely saves from Mike Smith, and a pair of clutch goals from Connor McDavid and Leon Draisailt (what else is new).
Despite the fact that the Blackhawks do not have a good record so far, this will be a tough matchup for the Oilers. Chicago is a veteran team that came into the year hungry to prove that last season was not the end of their dynasty years. The fact that they’re 0-2-1 to start the season should have them playing a very desperate game tonight in front of their home crowd. It’s also the final game of their four-game eastern road trip so their legs definitely won’t be as fresh as they were when the trip started last week.
I went through all of that and more in today’s Pre-Game Podcast, presented by YEG Burger.
