It’s the last day before the long weekend and that means we’re back with a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio to help get you through what’s left of your day while also make sense of everything that’s happened here in Edmonton and around the NHL. On this week’s show, we looked at the Oilers’ goaltending situation, holes that still need plugging, and a whole lot more.
To kick off today’s podcast, we jumped in with a look at whether or not the Oilers are better today than they were when the season ended against the Winnipeg Jets in the playoffs. Would it be fair to suggest that Edmonton’s forward group is better but that there are still question marks on defence and in net? Sticking with the goaltending, we looked at the rumour Frank Seravalli broke on the DFO Rundown about the Oilers potentially fishing for Joonas Korpisalo from the Columbus Blue Jackets and whether or not a package like this comes anywhere close to making sense. Next up, we looked at the reactions from opposing fanbases regarding Zach Hyman and Derek Ryan leaving. Since both of those guys got a lot of love from their former fans as they walked out the door, we used this as an opportunity to pump their tires a little bit as they head into their first season with the Oilers. Lastly, we wrapped up this week’s podcast with some talk about Darnell Nurse’s next contract after defencemen around the NHL seem to be signing monster deals over the past few weeks.
