Oilers Prospect Report: Give Cooper Marody a chance

It’s been a relatively quiet week around the Oilers prospect world.

One piece of big news was that Carter Savoie was nominated for the Hobey Baker award. It’s fair to say he earned that nomination with 12 goals and 22 points in 16 games for the University of Denver this year.

Savoie and the rest of the Oilers NCAA prospects didn’t play last weekend. As for the rest of the prospects, let’s take a look at what’s been going on.

GOALS! GOALS! GOALS!

Another week has gone by in the AHL, and Cooper Marody continues to prove his worth. Marody scored three goals and six points in three games to help lead the Bakersfield Condors to three straight wins. He now has 12 goals and 25 points this season. Ken Holland if you’re reading this, which you probably are, give Cooper Marody a chance. He’s earned it.

Stuart Skinner is also doing a fine job down in California since returning. Over the past week, he had a 0.940 SV%, a 1.33 GAA and a perfect 3-0-0 record. With Mike Smith now injured, Skinner is heading back to Edmonton again, which probably means Ilya Konovalov rejoins Bakersfield.

Raphael Lavoie found his scoring touch again, doubling up on his season goal tally. He found the net a couple of times in a 4-0 win over Abbotsford and a 4-3 win over the same team. Lavoie now has six goals and 12 points this season.

Lachance finds the net in Youngstown

We haven’t spoken about Shane Lachance much this year. He was the Oilers 6th round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft and is currently playing in the USHL for the Youngstown Phantoms. Lachance is a Boston College commit where he is expected to join them next season. After going 16 games without a goal, Lachance scored in back-to-back games last weekend to take his tally to three on the year. He also picked up an assist in the Phantoms 3-0 win over Cedar Rapids for his first multi-point game of the year.

Tullio has a three-point night

After seeing his four-game point streak end, Tyler Tullio started a new streak with a three-point night versus the Sudbury Wolves. Tullio grabbed a couple of goals which ended up being the game-winner and the insurance goal of the game. The first he blasted by Jonathan Lemaire in the Wolvers goal, then the second he went five-hole on a one-on-one chance. Tullio now has 14 goals and 41 points in 28 games this season in Oshawa.
