NHL SCOUTING COMBINE

The NHL’s version of speed dating is going on this week.  For players, it’s their first real glimpse of what the next level will entail.  It’s exciting and also a little scary at the same time.

GAME TAPE: OTTAWA

With two goals on the night and likely playing in his final game as an Oiler, Ales Hemsky lead the way in a 3-2 win over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.

OLYMPIC HANGOVER

Well it’s safe to say, I miss watching Team Canada play in the Olympics for gold.  I found last night’s game incredibly boring and I’m sure many felt some sort of emotional letdown.  If you didn’t right away, surely a 3-0 loss to the Minnesota Wild did the trick.

OLYMPIC BREAK

Joe Sakic spoke the other day about the Olympics and how he felt it’s better to play in the games and stay sharp while the majority of the league is resting or vacationing. For a team like the Oilers, having gone 5-1-1 In their last 7, it would probably be best to just keep rolling,…

Retribution

Many people wished Luke Gazdic or any Edmonton Oiler for that matter, had exacted some revenge on Canuck forward Zack Kassian Tuesday night.  I was one of them.

On Thursday he shook things up even more, sending Devan Dubnyk to Nashville for Matt Hendricks and a 3rd rounder to the Los Angeles Kings for goaltender Ben Scrivens. I’m not sure any of them register as bold or huge moves…

MY TEAM CANADA

With Hockey Canada unveiling their Olympic team on Tuesday, I decided to take a stab at this year’s roster.

AT THE BREAK

We didn’t see any jerseys on the ice at Rexall last night, so that’s a bonus heading into the Christmas holidays.  For just the sixth time this season the Oilers treated their fans to a win on home ice and made the holidays just a smidgen better. We all know after the attention given…

STILL GOT THE WIN

"Not all wins are pretty." That phrase is getting used quite a bit today. Things were looking great when the Oil jumped out to 4-1 lead versus the Carolina Hurricanes. They were in the driver’s seat but eventually allowed the Canes back in the game, before pulling it out in overtime. The Oilers have won…

MAILBAG

In this week’s mailbag were still talking concussions and player safety in hockey.
