The Edmonton Oilers have launched a new program to honour the late Colby Cave.
The program, dubbed Colby’s Kids, was built off a previous program the Oilers hosted called the 2nd shift program.
The new setup now will feature Oilers Alumni Fernando Pisani, Jason Chimera, and Kyle Brodziak leading the program and will provide opportunities for accessible and affordable learn-to-play programs, the Oilers said in a statement.
“It is an incredible honour to have established Colby’s Kids with the Oilers,” said Emily Cave, Colby’s widow. “The rebrand of the 2nd Shift program means more than words could ever describe. The hockey community is a special family and being able to provide underrepresented children and their families the opportunity to be apart of it is incredibly special. I would like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart who has supported me and donated to Colb’s memorial fund.”
The program will be open to all children aged six through 10 who have never previously been enrolled in minor hockey. The registration fee is $150 per participant and includes the following:
  • Six one-hour on-ice sessions
  • Edmonton Oilers Colby’s Kids jersey
  • Autographed trading card signed by Fernando Pisani, Jason Chimera and Kyle Brodziak
  • Edmonton Oilers Colby’s Kids bag tag
  • Opportunity to meet Edmonton Oilers mascot Hunter
  • Graduation photos
  • $100 voucher towards minor hockey registration for the 2021-22 or 2022-23 season
The club said equipment will also be available for purchase at a discounted rate. Registration is now open with fall sessions launching Oct. 31, while further sessions will be held in the winter and spring.
The Cave Family and Oilers Community Foundation created the Colby Cave Memorial Fund to honour Cave who passed away suddenly on April 11th, 2020. Proceeds from the fund will go towards Colby’s Kids.
