NHL Notebook: Rachel Doerrie files Human Rights discrimination complaint against Vancouver Canucks, Daily Faceoff’s power rankings and more

1 year agoFormer Vancouver Canucks employee Rachel Doerrie has filed a complaint with British Columbia’s Human Right Tribunal alleging she was discriminated against due to physical and mental disabilities.
The complaint alleges that assistant GM Emilie Castonguay caused “significant harms associated with [Doerrie’s] physical and mental disabilities” after Doerrie was promoted to a position on the Canucks’ bench.
The harms, the complaint alleges, included alienation of Doerrie that ultimately resulted in her suffering multiple cardiac episodes and panic and anxiety attacks at the Canucks’ 2022 training camp in Whistler.
Castonguay and the Canucks both denied the allegations.
“These allegations by Ms. Doerrie are absolutely not true and her allegations of what I said to her are false and inaccurate,” Castonguay said in a statement released through the Canucks. “At no time was Ms. Doerrie treated differently due to gender, a mental disability or a physical condition.
“I take a lot of pride in my work with the Vancouver Canucks, being a good leader, a person of high moral character, and always respecting and putting my co-workers first.”
The Canucks said they provided Doerrie with all the needed support systems.
“We strongly disagree with the allegations brought forth by Ms. Doerrie,” the club said in a statement. “Our organization provided Ms. Doerrie with all the necessary resources, support and opportunities to succeed in her role.
“We acted in good faith and abided by our contractual obligations, both during and after Ms. Doerrie’s employment with the organization.”
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
Daily Faceoff power rankings
Daily Faceoff released their latest round of power rankings Monday with the Oilers standing pat at 19th overall.

It wasn’t a great start to last week for the Oilers, as they lost quite badly to the Devils and then were shut out by the Islanders, and were even down 3-0 to the Rangers on Saturday, but they managed to salvage the week with four unanswered goals in the fourth to take the win there. Jack Campbell’s bad luck also continued this week, as he took a puck to the face in a game he wasn’t even playing in.

Shane Wright dominating AHL
Shane Wright is running show.
Sent down to the AHL’s Coachella Valley Thunderbirds, the Seattle Kraken’s affiliate, last week, all Wright done has produce. In his first three games, he’s scored four goals.
Daily Faceoff’s Steven Ellis had this to say of his conditioning stint:
Gee, give Shane Wright ice time and he’ll produce? Who would have thunk it? Wright is currently on loan to the AHL’s Coachella Valley Firebirds on conditioning stint and he’s up to four goals in three games – four goals on five shots, to be exact. He’s also displaying his trademark defensive stylings that made him a more diverse player in Kingston last year. Wright has the talent to excel in the NHL, but a bumpy start with the Seattle Kraken made some people question if he truly was the top prospect most projected him to be. I still say 1,000 per cent yes, because he’s far beyond just a shooter. From a skill perspective, he has everything you look for in a top prospect – he just needed to display it. He has two games left on his conditioning stint and will likely be loaned out to Canada’s World Junior Championship team afterward. Special shoutout to fellow Kraken prospect Jagger Firkus, who’s just punishing the WHL right now.
