The Oilers are reportedly still interested in Jake DeBrusk

Q: What are the odds Jake DeBrusk gets traded? If he does, do you think this will include draft picks to land a No. 2 center? — Migalito L.A: I have heard Edmonton remains interested in DeBrusk. Calgary to a lesser degree. Combine that with the cluster of left-shot forwards and the shortness of cap space, and trading DeBrusk remains a possibility. A No. 2 center would be the ideal return. But they are not in a great spot to trade picks. It would have to be someone of DeBrusk’s profile: an underperforming player with potential to play better elsewhere.
DeBrusk’s name has been out there in trade talks for quite some time now.
It took DeBrusk and the Bruins until mid-November of last year to come to terms on a two-year deal after the expiration of his entry-level deal. Boston was skeptical to give the former No. 14 overall pick a long-term deal, so they opted to bridge him instead, and he followed that up with the worst season of his professional career, scoring just five goals and 14 points over 41 games.
Back in February, I wrote about DeBrusk being a possible fit for the Oilers as the team had a hole on the left wing in their top-six. Since then, though, the Oilers have added @Zach Hyman and @Warren Foegele and they re-signed @Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, so the need for a player like DeBrusk isn’t quite so glaring.
DeBrusk has a cap hit of $3,675,000 for one more season and then he’ll become a restricted free agent again. I can’t see a trade between Boston and Edmonton involving DeBrusk happening anytime soon, but it’ll be something to keep an eye on.
