What the Oil needs now…

I was giving this some thought the other day and wouldn’t you know it: Lowetide beat me to the punch with this concise-yet-poignant post about what the Oilers need to be contenders next year. He says it best, so here it goes:

“The Edmonton Oilers need a shooter. A sniper. Someone who can shoot the damn puck from anywhere and be dangerous. […] We’ve talked about Jokinen and Blake and Cammalleri all season, but I think there’s another guy out there who might fit the bill and based on his team’s post-season may be available. Jonathan Cheechoo.”

If Lowetide’s right, and we need a dangerous shooter, who do you folks out in the Nation think the Oilers should be gunning for? Cheechoo, or someone else?

    Let the future play out.

The kids are alright, we finished 2nd in scoring in the West.

Shore up the D, keep some pucks out of the net. A healthy Souray can only help.

I do love me some Cheechoo……..if a deal can be struck, why not? But not necessary.

That was a beauty he scored last night to tie it up.

Risto – the Oilers were fourth in the West in scoring.

Wow- I finally corrected someone on a statistic. Look out Alfred Einstein, Wanye is on your ass for the title of "smartest person in the universe"

Thanks for the assist, Wanye, always your strength.

We did finish 2nd in something. 2nd Last in GA.

Shore up the D! We also need gritty Glencross types more than we need a Cheechoo.

Unless they trade Penner, he's supposed to be our up-and-coming Esposito/Simpson type to get the garbage goals in tight.

I like the idea of the Cheechoo Train stopping at Coliseum Station as long as he puts the puck in the net with his stick instead of trying to blow it across the goal line like in the above photo.

Personally i am in favor of seeing Dany Heatley (Alberta boy)in Oiler silks. He was a back to back 50 goal scorer and is locked to a long term contract, you know Ottawa might be in favor of a huge shake up, especially after the poor season that they had. If a package trade with any of Pitkanen,Torres,Schremp, picks or other prospects will get it done even if they need to do a go between

As I commented on in the Lowetide thread, Jeff Carter, or keep what we've got.

Trade for him, no offer sheet this time. Philly doesn't have a lot of depth in the defensive side of the prospect pool, and they were eying Jarrett Stoll all last year. Stoll and Chorney to Philly for Carter.
