After playing his first 1,090 NHL games with the Boston Bruins, Brad Marchand will wear a different uniform for the first time in his professional career. According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, the winger has been traded to the Florida Panthers.

This is the second significant addition that the defending Stanley Cup Champions made ahead of the trade deadline. Last weekend, the Panthers acquired defenceman Seth Jones from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for goaltender Spencer Knight and a first-round pick.
Adding Marchand comes after the Panthers learned that the team is going to be without pesky winger Matthew Tkachuk for the rest of the regular season. Tkachuk suffered a lower-body injury during the 4 Nations Face-Off in February and Florida placed him on the Long-Term Injured Reserve earlier this week.
The Bruins selected Marchand in the third round of the 2006 draft and he made his debut with the club a few years later in 2009-10 following a successful run in the American Hockey League.
Marchand made Boston’s roster out of training camp in 2010-11 and scored 41 points over 77 games as a rookie. He then added 19 more points in the playoffs, helping the Bruins capture their first Stanley Cup since 1971-72.
Over the next decade, the native of Halifax, Nova Scotia established himself as one of the best wingers in hockey, becoming known for his ability to produce offence at a high level as well as his knack of agitating opponents.
Marchand’s 1,090 games played ranks fourth in Bruins’ all-time history behind only Ray Bourque, Johnny Buyck, and Patrice Bergeron. His 422 goals and 976 points with Boston also rank fourth and fifth in team history.
Now 36 years old, Marchand posted 21 goals and 47 points over 61 games for a Boston team that appears poised to miss the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade. He’s set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
The Bruins also made a couple more trades ahead of the deadline on Friday. They moved centre Charlie Coyle to the Minnesota Wild in part of a three-team deal and they dealt defenceman Brandon Carlo to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
