The other day, I put together the list of
Oilers second-round picks from the past decade to see how they’ve done over that span and who was left in the organization. The answer was not good, but it made me wonder how their drafting record held up against the rest of the league. It’s not really fair to say the Oilers have been horrible at drafting in the second round if we don’t know how everyone else has done over that same time frame. With that in mind, I wanted to dive into the Pacific Division to see how the Oilers’ divisional rivals have done with their second-round picks over the past 10 years.
How will the Oilers compare to their division? Let’s find out.
Before we get into the numbers I just want to give you guys a little bit of context for how the draft years are laid out. I’ve listed each team’s picks on a year-by-year basis while also include the prospects stats underneath their selection. In those stats, I’ve included the year of their rookie season (if they had one) and how they’ve done during the 2017-18 season.

THE WRAP…
Can I be honest with you guys? When I said that I would do a breakdown like this, I never expected how much work I was actually going to be doing but this was substantial. On the bright side, this exercise also made me feel quite a bit better about the Oilers striking out as badly as they have over the last 10 years in the second round. It’s not like all of these teams are smashing out home runs every single year, and you really get to see how drafting kids can be voodoo. On the downside, there are still plenty of players on this list, especially older ones, that are making an impact somewhere in the league which isn’t something that the Oilers can say with their list.
What do you guys think?
