A Toast to Lanny

All’s fair out on the ice when it comes to the Battle of Alberta between the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames, but there’s an event coming up next Thursday in Cowtown that’s bigger than the BOA and is something fans in both towns can get behind.
The Flames alumni is putting on its own version of Edmonton’s highly successful Toast of the Town event with Lanny McDonald as the honored guest in support of blood cancer research at the University of Calgary and the Calgary Cancer Centre through the Cure Cancer Foundation with a night of fun and fundraising at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Proceeds will also go toward CP Kids and Families and other alumni charitable beneficiaries
The evening will include a VIP reception, dinner, a live and silent auction as well as hot stove sessions featuring Darryl Sittler, Tiger Williams and 20 Flames alumni including event chairman Jamie Macoun, Joel Otto and Mike Vernon in celebration of McDonald’s career and considerable charitable work in Calgary.
Kevin Lowe, always right in the middle of the BOA mix in the 1990s, and former Oilers’ equipment man Barrie Stafford – who were the honored guests in the first two Toast of the Town events held in Edmonton – will also attend and rep the Oilers.
If you’d like more information about the event — be it about tickets, sponsorship or making a donation – please contact Dallas Kitt, the director of events for Calgary Sports and Entertainment, at dkitt@calgaryflames.com or at 403 589-8355.
