The Edmonton Oilers are facing elimination today in Game 6, and they’ll have to do so without Andrej Sekera, who will miss the remainder of the series with an injury suffered in Game 5’s loss.
Sekera was injured just a few minutes into Friday’s game after a big, clean hit from Ryan Getzlaf. In his absence, Adam Larsson stepped up and played a whopping 44:58 minutes.
It hasn’t been announced yet who will slot into Sekera’s spot, but one would imagine Kris Russell would shift back to his natural left side and Eric Gryba would slot in on the right side. The Oilers could also use Mark Fayne, who has experience from New Jersey’s 2012 playoff run, but he’s clearly very low on Edmonton’s depth chart.
Regardless, this is a huge loss for the Oilers blue line, as Sekera has been a key presence on the team all season. Oscar Klefbom, Adam Larsson, and Darnell Nurse are all going to have to step up in a massive way if the Oilers are going to come back and snatch this series.
