If there’s one thing Oilers fans have come from their captain it’s to expect it’s the unexpected. With blazing speed and hands to match, Connor McDavid is a threat every time he’s on the ice and that skill was on full display on the second-period assist on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ 17th goal of the season.
After Paul Carey scored to give the Oilers a 2-1 lead, Connor McDavid gave the young Rangers’ defence a taste of what he’s capable of as he combined superior puck skills with blazing speed out wide to set up Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on a tee. Once McDavid took Sekera’s breakout pass in flight, the only thing the Rangers could really do was hope that he made a mistake. Maybe next time.
Check out the video:
Before returning last night against the Rangers, Nugent-Hopkins had missed 18 games with cracked ribs and wasted no time in finding a way to contribute. Before being injured, RNH was on pace for a career year in almost every statistical category and, if last night’s game was any indication, he is looking to finish the season strong. For many Oilers fans, seeing McDavid and Nugent-Hopkins together on the same line would be at the top of their wishlist, yet it doesn’t seem to happen.
Do you think Mcdavid and RNH would be effective linemates? Why do you think won’t Todd McLellan try it for more than a second or two? Leave your feedback in the comments below.
