Amid the wild night of a massive comeback against the Vancouver Canucks, there was one incident that had people talking.
Late in the second period, Antoine Roussel seemingly randomly dropped his right glove and delivered a few quick punches to the face of Jesse Puljujarvi.
Puljujarvi engaged Roussel physically and caught him with a unintentional shoulder to the head as the Canuck turned to play the puck, and it was enough to set him off. Puljujarvi was an unwilling combatant and didn’t fight back in the one-sided scrap, but he did suffer a cut on the bridge of his nose.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins hopped in to give Roussel the gears and Wednesday, the NHL announced they would be fining the bottom-six grinder $5,000 for his punches.
Roussel got the only penalty in the incident, a two-minute minor for roughing.
The Oilers and Canucks will play again Thursday night and it will be interesting to see if Roussel is asked to answer the bell.
