On July the 2nd, 2018 the Oilers said goodbye to Anton Slepyshev (as well as Yohann Auvitu) who headed over to the KHL after not accepting the Qualifying offer from the team. This was expected and while still retaining his rights, Slepyshev joined the powerhouse of the KHL, CSKA Moscow. After winning the Continental Cup (the KHL’s version of the NHL’s presidents trophy) Anton and his club won the Gagarin Cup defeating Avangard Omsk in the finals.
In doing so, a bit of history was made as this is the first time that the best team in the regular season (Continental cup) went on to win the Gagarin cup.
The CSKA club was lead this season by former 12th overall pick in the 2012 NHL entry draft, Mikhail Grigorenko, finishing the regular season with 17 goals, 35 assists for 52 points.
Anton Slepyshev would end up fifth on the team for scoring with 15 goals and 10 assists through 56 games.
Slepyshev has one more year left on his contract with CSKA Moscow so I don’t think we should expect to see him back in the NHL anytime soon.
