Arena Updates – July Edition

It’s been a while since I’ve gone down to the new arena site and brought you guys some A-grade reporting from ground level.  Since the last time I’ve been down there, a lot of the machinery has changed and it looks like there’s actually a building being built there. The traffic is delayed, the sidewalks are closed, and once again I wasn’t allowed in anywhere that looked even remotely important – this is your arena report.

THE GROUND PUNCHERS HAVE BEEN REPLACED

One of the first things you’ll notice, when you get to the arena site, is that there are a lot of these cranes kicking around.  None of the cranes were carrying/holding anything, when I was there, but there they were and I assume they’ll eventually be important.  Although you can’t see it from this picture, there are partial columns all over the arena site and these cranes will be probably be useful when it comes to lifting the walls or something… I haven’t checked the plans.  Either they’re there to lift the walls and roof, or the guys on the construction crew will be setting up the giant slingshots after K-Days is finished with them – we’ll see what happens.

TAKE YOUR SHIRT OFF AND BUILD SOMETHING

When you’re in the middle of a Y-E-G heatwave, the last thing you want is a damned hoodie slowing you down.  Who is the man that is wandering around hoodie-less?  The answer remains a mystery, but this man is so busy that he didn’t even have the time to put his stylish American Eagle apparel away. Regardless of where this man is, I salute him for his dedication to his construction duties and can only hope that his spouse, or mother, will forgive him for the dirt in the laundry.  With men like this on the job, maybe this thing will be ready by the fall of 2016.

A STAIRWAY TO NOWHERE

Where are these stairs going? No where, at the moment.  As it stands today, the only thing these stairs can accomplish is being a sweet place to eat your lunch, put a Nation sticker, or maybe catch a bronze.  Maybe the hoodie-less guy is also a shirtless guy  set up these stairs so that he can lay out and attain the level of sun cooking that he so desires? Who is this hoodie-less man and is he connected to the stairway to nowhere? I’ll keep my eye on it.

COME FOR THE ARENA, STAY FOR THE ROBBERY OPPORTUNITIES

Along 104th Avenue, there are sections of the sidewalk that have these tunnel walk throughs.  These covered sidewalks are unlit, and at nighttime I would imagine they can get pretty dark.  I’m not saying that these sidewalks are creating opportunities to rob people, but I’m not not saying that either.  On the bright side, there were no robberies when I walked through. I’m no expert, but couldn’t they hang some of those white Christmas lights in there or something?  Maybe we’re all getting night vision goggles?

YOU CAN STILL LOSE YOUR RENT MONEY

I was happy to see that you’re still able to lose your rent money on your lunch hour. Unfortunately for me, I lost $10 by picking 17 on the roulette VLTs.  There was no sign posted that shows when the casino will be coming down, but I imagine it’ll be at some point in the near future.  Until then, gamblers and the unemployed have a place with air conditioning to hide out at.  It would probably be cheaper to hang out at 7-11, but what am I gonna tell you?

IN CONCLUSION

I can definitely tell you that something is being built downtown. Allegedly, it’s an arena.  Allegedly, it will be done by the fall of 2016. Allegedly.
The investigation continues…
