Happy Wednesday, Internet friends, and welcome to yet another chapter of your ol’ pal Baggedmilk’s adventures in radio. As I do every week, I jumped on the air with the boys on The Locker Room for a quick segment to talk about the Oilers while also offering my takes on anything else that’s going on in the world.
To kick off this week’s segment, we started with a look at the recent camp cuts the Oilers made, and whether or not there’s a chance that a player like Xavier Bourgault will end up playing NHL games this season. While I have no idea where he would rank on the Oiler’s call-up list, I do think Bourgault did everything he could to give a strong first impression in camp. Could that earn him a few NHL games this season? I think so. Another guy who had a strong camp to this point is Jack Campbell, a guy that many Oilers fans had already written off before any games were played. But seeing as he’s been so good throughout the pre-season, some folks are now wondering whether or not Soup has put himself back in the conversation to be the team’s starter again. While I have no idea how close that is to happening, I do think the goaltending split will be a little bit closer in 2023-24 than maybe we might have thought. Lastly, we wrapped up this week’s segment with a quick chat about Nickelback after the band was announced as a performer for the Heritage Classic. From my perspective, was there any other choice for an event like this? I didn’t think so.
