Happy Wednesday, Internet friends, and welcome to yet another chapter of your ol’ pal Baggedmilk’s adventures in radio. As I do every week, I jumped on the air with the boys on The Locker Room for a quick segment to talk about the Oilers while offering my takes on anything else that’s happening in the world.
Kicking off this week’s segment, we started with Jay Woodcroft getting fired on Sunday morning after winning his last game as the team’s head coach the night before. Was it fair to fire Woody? Did the team do it too soon? Was this a panic move by Jeff Jackson in his first year as the team’s CEO? We will never truly know the answer to those questions, but what is for sure is that Edmonton has a new coach in Kris Knoblauch, who is coming into town under dire circumstances. And since everyone knows that Knoblauch was Connor McDavid’s coach with the Erie Otters, some took this as an opportunity to connect the dots that the captain is calling the shots. Personally, I think that’s unfair. While I would certainly buy that he’s being asked for thoughts on the team, the room, and how he’s doing, I highly doubt that he’s saying specific names that he’d want as the team’s new coach. Changing gears, we then spoke about Paul Coffey’s presence on the bench and what he may provide to the team regardless of his lack of coaching experience. Given his resume and love for the Oilers, I’d assume the boys are willing to listen to his thoughts, but how effective he’ll be at repairing the defence remains to be seen. Lastly, we wrapped up this week’s segment with a look at the #NationVacation to Arizona and how this is an event that you will absolutely want to join us for.
