Happy Wednesday, Internet friends, and welcome to yet another chapter of your ol’ pal Baggedmilk’s adventures in radio. As I do every week, I jumped on the air with the boys on The Locker Room for a quick segment to talk about the Oilers while also offering my takes on anything else that’s going on in the world.
To kick off this week’s segment, we got started with a look at the scare we all got on Monday night after Connor McDavid went crashing into the goalpost and temporarily left the game in clear distress. In the moment, I know a lot of us were feeling a little bit of PTSD after what happened in Calgary a few years back, and the relief that washed over the city when he came back on the ice was incredibly satisfying. One positive that did come out of that crash, however, was the way the rest of the team seemed to rally around their captain. Led by Leon Draisaitl, the Oilers roared back into that game against the Penguins with contributions from throughout the line and it was truly wonderful to see. From there, we looked at the way the bottom six has performed so far, and whether or not we should be expecting more offence from a group that’s producing all kinds of chances right now. Personally, I think the current bottom six group is about as good as we’ve seen around these parts, and I honestly believe it’s only a matter of time before they get rewarded for their efforts.
