Happy Wednesday, Internet friends, and welcome to yet another chapter of your ol’ pal Baggedmilk’s adventures in radio. As I do every week, I jumped on the air with the boys on The Locker Room for a quick segment to talk about the Oilers while also offering my takes on anything else that’s going on in the world.
To kick off this week’s segment, we got started with a quick chat about the weather we’re working through in the city right now, and how none of us understand why we all live here. Not only is there three feet of snow on the ground but it’s 2000 degrees below zero, which makes going outside basically impossible. Getting back to the Oilers, we spent the next few minutes talking about Stuart Skinner’s contract extension that he just signed, and how incredible the story is to have a local guy sign a multi-million dollar contract to be the goalie in his hometown. With only 64 available jobs in the NHL at that position, you see how truly wild it is to have him land with the Oilers and perform so successfully. Next up, we looked at the Oilers’ need for defence and whether or not acquiring someone that can make a real impact is a likely scenario or not. And while there are plenty of names that are circling this team right now, I have my doubts that a trade is going to happen any time soon. If Ken Holland does trade for a d-man, however, who are they likely to target? While I fully admit to not knowing anything, my personal belief is that the Oilers need a shutdown defenceman that can help keep pucks out of the net. Is that doable? We shall see, but I’d bet that it won’t be happening any time soon.
