Happy Wednesday, Internet friends, and welcome to yet another chapter of your ol’ pal Baggedmilk’s adventures in radio. As I do every week, I jumped on the air with the boys on The Locker Room for a quick segment to talk about the Oilers while offering my takes on anything else that’s happening in the world.
Kicking off this week’s segment, we started with last night’s win over the Columbus Blue Jackets and how it was one of the ugliest Oilers wins that we’ve seen all season. Through 40 minutes, the Oilers were totally flat, and had it not been for Stuart Skinner’s brilliance, then that game could have easily gotten out of hand in a hurry. Frankly, Columbus was the better team for 2/3 of the game and it was almost tough to watch the Oilers struggle with their execution as badly as they were. Yet, despite being outplayed for long stretches, the Oilers were able to hang around and give themselves a chance to win.
Changing gears, we looked at the team’s decision to sign Corey Perry to a one-year contract, and we discussed how he’ll help an Oilers team that is already playing some pretty strong hockey. From my perspective, the more interesting aspect of Corey Perry being on the lineup will be who comes out to give him a spot. Now that Dylan Holloway is back from his injury and Adam Erne and James Hamblin have been sent back to Bakersfield, the Oilers will need to free up a spot for the former Cup-winner and league MVP. Lastly, we wrapped up this week’s segment with a look at Anson Carter pissing off the entire Canucks fanbase when he said on their broadcast that the Oilers have a better chance at winning the Cup than Vancouver does.
