Baggedmilk on #theLOCKERROOM: Should the Oilers have been in on Erik Karlsson?

Happy Wednesday, Internet friends, and welcome to yet another chapter of your ol’ pal Baggedmilk’s adventures in radio. As I do every week, I jumped on the air with the boys on The Locker Room for a quick segment to talk about the Oilers while also offering my takes on anything else that’s going on in the world.
To kick off this week’s segment, we got started with a look at the Erik Karlsson trade to Pittsburgh and specifically how some Oilers fans were upset that Edmonton wasn’t in on the Norris winner. Personally, I never considered that the Oilers could be in on Karlsson given their cap constraints and lack of organizational depth needed to make such a deal, but that doesn’t stop some of us from getting rattled about the miss anyway. Would I have loved Karlsson here? Of course. Did I expect it? Never. Changing gears, we looked at the Brandon Sutter PTO that came in yesterday and even though I don’t think there’s a high likelihood that he makes the team, I do love that the Oilers are creating competition in camp. Gone are the days of gifting people spots, and regardless of what happens with Sutter, I love the idea of bringing in hungry players that are willing to battle for spots. I would much rather see the Oilers give PTOs to as many players as possible if it means icing a more competitive lineup in the fall.
