Betway Bets of the Day — Backing the New Jersey Devils and Connor McDavid to score

Welcome back to another edition of the Betway Bets of the Day!

Our first bet of the day will be taking the New Jersey Devils on the -1.5 puckline. These odds sit at +145.

Both the Devils and their opponents tonight in the New York Islanders have been two of the worst teams to the spread this season. New Jersey has gone 5-14 to it, returning -8.95u, while the Islanders are 8-12, returning -7.7u. That being said, one of these teams have to cover this spread, and I love the Devils at plus-money to do so.

Despite having some serious goaltending struggles this year, offence has come in bunches for the Devils this season scoring four or more goals in 10 of 19 games. The Islanders, meanwhile, have scored as many in just four of their 20 games this year.

According to Daily Faceoff’s DFS charts, New Jersey has the best matchup of any team on the slate at 5v5, and the second best powerplay advantage, so look for them to roll tonight.

For that reason, we’re also backing the Devils to score o3.5 goals. These odds sit at +100.

Our second bet of the day will be taking Connor McDavid to score a goal. These odds sit at +125.

McDavid seems to have turned a corner this season, racking up a whopping nine points in his last two games, while taking six shots on goal over that time. Just one of those points, however, have come in the form of a goal — something he’s done in just six of 18 games.

Tonight, however, I like him to score. His shooting percentage of 13 percent is still below his career average of 15.5, and below the 16.2 percent he’s shot in his four prior years.

I expect that shot volume to increase, and with it, his goal scoring, sitting at rates well below his career averages. This is a big game for the Oilers tonight, and McDavid leading the charge with a goal makes sense.
