Brandon Davidson takes PTO from Chicago

Last week, it was reported that the Oilers offered Brandon Davidson a PTO to potentially earn a third go-around with the club, but he declined to pursue opportunities elsewhere. That elsewhere, according to Jim Matheson, is the Chicago Blackhawks.
According to Matheson, Davidson had 10 different PTO options. It’s interesting that nobody was willing to offer him a contract, though, given his multiple years of experience as a solid depth NHL defender.
The Blackhawks, given their cap crunch, have a very thin blueline. On the left side, Duncan Keith occupies the top spot, while newly-acquired Brandon Manning and Erik Gustafsson round out the second and third pairs.
Davidson has played 152 NHL games over parts of four seasons, racking up nine goals and 22 points with a -13 career rating. He’s played mostly for the Oilers, but Edmonton dealt him two separate times, once to the Montreal Canadiens for David Desharnais, and once to the New York Islanders for a draft pick.
It would be a hilarious twist if Davidson somehow ended up getting traded to the Oilers this year.
