Cal Nichols stepping down

As we learned from the OilersNation on Twitter, Cal Nichols has stepped down from his post with the Oilers.
“Nichols stepped aside while he leads a business group’s fight to save the City Centre Airport.  Nichols, a key player in the original investors’ group that kept the Oilers in Edmonton before the sale to Daryl Katz, says he doesn’t want to drag the team into the politics of the airport fight.”
Nichols, pictured above with Paul Coffey and a dapper Sam Gagner in a suit is one of the good guys here in Edmonton and a major reason why we have the luxury of being frustrated with the Oilers on a Friday Morning.
The article continues on to say that Nichols “recently took on a new role as the head of the Alberta Enterprise Group, a pro-airport advocacy alliance of business leaders. Oilers president Patrick LaForge says the team respects Nichols’ decision and supports his view that a clean break is needed, quote, “particularly as plans move forward for the development of a new entertainment and sports district in downtown Edmonton.”  Nichols says his future with the Oilers’ organization will be at the sole discretion of the Katz Group upon the completion of the City Centre Airport hearings in June.”
Is there a story here? Is this related to anything other than Nichols’ unparalleled desire to help the City of Edmonton? A better writer would know answers. Instead we ask you. We should probably all discuss this before Deep Oil gets wind of the story and comes on here and explains to us how Cal Nichols is actually a director of the CIA planted at the discretion of the industrial military complex, or something equally mind blowing.
