The Edmonton Oilers will be aiming to maintain their current winning ways on home ice when they wrap up a two-game series with the slumping Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night as -135 home favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Edmonton needed a big third-period surge to claim a 4-1 win in Monday’s series opener, and has now claimed victory in eight straight home contests going into Wednesday night’s matchup at Rogers Place.

With Monday’s win, the Oilers have now picked up two points in nine of their past 13 overall outings. The Oilers’ recent steady performance has lifted them to within five points of the North Division-leading Toronto Maple Leafs, with two games in hand. The club has also been rewarded on the divisional odds, where they now sit as a +450 wager at sports betting sites.
Despite Monday’s success, generating consistent offense when facing Montreal remains a concern for Edmonton. As has been the case whenever these two teams have met this season, the Oilers were steadily frustrated by Montreal’s stingy defensive play on Monday night, and failed to find the back of the net until scoring four times over the final 10 minutes of the third period.
The Oilers have potted just 11 total goals while losing four of six meetings with Montreal this season, according to the OddsShark NHL Database. The Canadiens managed to hold both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl off the scoresheet during their first five meetings.
However, it was the Oilers captain who sparked the team’s late offensive surge on Monday night, tallying a goal and two assists. That extends a productive stretch for McDavid, who has recorded 10 points in his past five outings, and 19 total points during the Oilers’ 8-0-0 run on home ice. But while Edmonton is averaging four goals per game during its current home win streak, it is the UNDER that has been the steady wager, going 5-2-1 over that stretch.
While the Oilers aim to close the gap on the top of the standings, the Canadiens aim to snap out of their current road funk as they hit the ice on Wednesday as +115 underdogs.
The Montreal offense has sputtered badly during a 3-7-0 run that has left the club at risk of being overtaken in the race for the fourth and final playoff spot in the North. The Canadiens have been outscored by a wide 35-18 margin during their current 10-game swoon. The team has fared no better on the road, mustering just three wins in 13 contests since mid-February, and has been limited to just a single goal in five of their past 10 away clashes.
