The Edmonton Oilers will be making their first appearance on home ice in two weeks when they open a weekend home-and-home series with the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday as -140 betting favourites on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Edmonton is coming off a 4-1 loss in Colorado on Thursday to close out its five-game road trip with a 3-2-0 record to remain atop the Pacific Division standings going into Saturday night’s game at Rogers Place.

While the Oilers’ recent road trip can be viewed as a success, it came at considerable cost. Alex Chiasson is sidelined indefinitely after suffering a concussion in Edmonton’s loss to the Avalanche as a +110 wager, while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has been ruled out of both of this weekend’s contests after suffering a hand injury that has already forced him to miss two games. The Oilers had posted wins in each of the past five outings in which Nugent-Hopkins recorded at least a point.
And the Oilers could also use all the offense they can get to rebound from a recent shaky run on home ice, where they have lost four of their past six games while scoring two or fewer goals on three occasions.
The Oilers have risen to the occasion in recent meetings with Vancouver, posting wins in three straight tilts, including a narrow 3-2 victory as -130 home chalk at betting sites on opening night. Edmonton has also been effective at shutting down the Canucks offense, limiting Vancouver to two or fewer goals in 14 of 19 meetings since the start of the 2015/16 NHL season.
That’s bad news for the Canucks, who wrap up a six-game road trip in Edmonton on Saturday as +120 underdogs. The Canucks are coming off a wild 8-6 loss in Pittsburgh as +145 underdogs on Wednesday to fall to 2-3-0 during their current trip. However, the Vancouver offense has struggled to get going at times in recent weeks, scoring two or fewer goals on nine occasions during a 4-7-3 run.
Despite those struggles the Canucks could be well positioned to turn things around when the scene shifts to Rogers Arena, where they have held the Oilers to just eight total goals while posting wins in three of four meetings.
