The Edmonton Oilers will be desperately looking to end a goal scoring drought that now stands at over 152 minutes when they return home to face the Washington Capitals on Thursday as +110 underdogs on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Edmonton was held off the score sheet while falling to defeat in both halves of a recent two-game road trip, and has now averaged just 1.8 goals per game in five outings ahead of Thursday night’s contest at Rogers Place.

After falling 1-0 to Winnipeg in a shootout loss as +110 road underdogs on Sunday, the Oilers’ offensive woes continued in Minnesota on Tuesday night with a 3-0 defeat as +105 underdogs. That leaves the club without a goal since Ethan Bear’s second-period tally in a 2-1 win over Detroit as -200 home chalk at betting sites on Saturday night.
Despite their current struggles, though, the Oilers continue to hold on to first place in the Pacific Division standings, one point up on Vegas, and sit second to the Golden Knights as +400 wager to claim the division crown. Edmonton also continues to receive steady goaltending from Mike Smith and Mikko Koskinen, allowing just two goals per game over the team’s past six outings, fueling a 5-1 run for the UNDER in totals betting.
However, the Oilers are likely to have their hands full against the red-hot Capitals, who continue a five-game road trip in Edmonton set as -135 road favourites. The Capitals are coming off a 5-3 win in Calgary as +100 underdogs on Tuesday and have now claimed victory in four straight games to improve to 5-1-0 over their past six outings.
Washington’s current surge also includes victories in three straight contests, outscoring opponents by a 14-7 margin in those games. Alex Ovechkin and John Carlson have led the Capitals attack; Washington’s captain has recorded six goals and five assists during an eight-game point streak, while Carlson has vaulted to the top of the NHL scoring race after racking up 20 points through his first 11 appearances.
The Capitals have also dominated the Oilers in recent clashes, picking up the win in six of eight meetings overall since January 2015 according to the OddsShark NHL Database. Low-scoring has highlighted those matchups, with Washington putting up two or fewer goals on five occasions, powering a 5-2-1 run for the UNDER during that stretch.
