Connor McDavid pots 100th career NHL goal

Connor McDavid has begun the Ken Hitchcock era with a bang.

The young captain scored his 100th career NHL goal during the first period of Tuesday’s game against the San Jose Sharks. He reaches the milestone in his 230th career NHL game.

After Joonas Donskoi opened the scoring for the Sharks, the top line for the Oilers went to work.

McDavid made some nice moves along the boards before handing the puck off to Adam Larsson at the point and going to the net. Leon Draisaitl received the puck down low and made a great play to find McDavid in the high slot. The young phenom placed a shot over the outstretched pad of goaltender Martin Jones to record his 100th goal.

McDavid is just the fourth active NHLer to reach the 100-goal mark before his 22nd birthday. He’s now sitting at an impressive 285 points in 230 career NHL games as he begins a new chapter under a new coach.

Head coach Todd McLellan was fired on Tuesday after an ugly stretch where the Oilers lost six of seven games. He was replaced by the veteran Hitchcock.

“We’re all to blame here,” McDavid said. “This obviously isn’t on Todd at all, it’s on us as players and that’s just how the business works sometimes. We got to wake up here.”

Not a bad start under the new coach for McDavid, who is likely going to reach quite a few more milestones over his NHL career.
