With an assist in tonight’s game against the Winnipeg Jets, Connor McDavid has now recorded 500 career NHL points. It took him 369 games.
Here it is, courtesy of a beautiful snipe from Jesse Puljujarvi…
An interesting thing about this is that Sidney Crosby also recorded his 500th career NHL point in his 369th game, back in the 2009-10 season. Crosby had stood alone as the eighth-fastest player in league history to reach the 500-point milestone.
Of course, at that age, Crosby had also won a Stanley Cup.
“I think that’s pretty cool,” McDavid said Tuesday. “He’s a guy that I grew up watching. He’s done a couple of other things that I’m trying to do with all his [Stanley] Cups and all that stuff.”
The only players to have reached 500 NHL points faster than McDavid and Crosby are Wayne Gretzky (234 games), Mario Lemieux (287 games), Peter Stastny (322 games), Mike Bossy (349 games), Eric Lindros (352 games), Jari Kurri (356 games), and Bryan Trottier (362 games).
How many games do you think it’ll take him to reach 1,000?
