Connor McDavid sets NHL record with historic start

It really is the Connor McDavid show.

The 21-year-old phenom is having a fantastic start to the 2018-19 NHL season and he’s setting records in the process.

McDavid became the first player in NHL history to factor in on the first eight goals of an NHL team’s season Tuesday evening against the Winnipeg Jets.

McDavid scored twice and added an assist against Winnipeg — giving him a point on all eight Edmonton Oilers goals thus far.

Adam Oates previously held the record when he had a point on the first seven goals of the Red Wings’ 1986-87 season.

No matter which way you look at this, McDavid is clearly a very special player. Obviously fans would like to see other players getting involved in the Oilers’ scoring, but there’s a reason Connor went first overall in the 2015 NHL Draft and is considered one of, if not the very best hockey player in the world.

McDavid is an early Hart Trophy favorite after leading the NHL in scoring last season with 108 points (41 goals) despite the Oilers missing the playoffs by 17 points. McDavid finished fifth in Hart Trophy voting last season and was the only player from a team that didn’t qualify for the playoffs to receive votes. He’s well on his way to duplicating his success of his triple-win in 2016-17 (Hart, Art Ross, Ted Lindsay).

McDavid is simply insane.
