This past weekend I had the pleasure of being on The Oilers Live podcast, whom you can follow on Twitter @oilerslive. If you haven’t listened before, he has a variety of guests that make each episode different and entertaining. For my episode, we didn’t have an agenda, the topic changed direction a lot and to be honest, it was a good time. If you want to listen to me ramble for an hour and a half you can do so here. At one point, Michael, host of the podcast, asked me about my thoughts on Cam Talbot, and that’s when things got interesting.

How can Cam bounce back?

At first, I suggested they hire a sports psychologist. I can’t find any news resources, but they actually did employee one a few years ago, apparently, that didn’t work too well. Then I said maybe Talbot needs a hypnotist to work with him. Can you imagine the headline? “Professional National Hockey League Goaltender Thinks He’s A Chicken.”

Do we need a new goaltending coach?

While talking about the same suggestion, Michael asked if maybe the Oilers needed a goaltending coach change. Things have seemed to work out for the Oilers and their goaltenders since hiring Dustin Schwartz in 2014, maybe the team needs a shakeup there. Quite possibly it’s just all in Cam’s head.
Previously I wrote in this sport that I thought Schwartz wasn’t on full time with the Oilers. I want to inform all of Oilersnation that I found out this afternoon that Schwartz does indeed work full time with the Oilers. He only works with the Oil Kings, when both the NHL and WHL club are at home. Kurtis Mucha, a former U of A goalie has been filling in as the Oil Kings regular goaltending coach. Schwartz appears sparingly at Vimmy helping out their goaltenders,
What help do you think Cam needs when it comes to bouncing back? Is it a hypnotist or does the team need a goaltending coach change? Maybe Sean Burke will be looking for a new gig after the Olympics (kidding!). Let me know your thoughts below.
