The rumours have been swirling for a while about Jordan Eberle being traded.
Now, TSN’s Bob McKenzie is reporting that a deal may be done prior to the upcoming trade freeze which lands at 1 p.m. MT on Saturday afternoon. His hit came from TSN 1050.
The five tweets from Chris Nichols highlights McKenzie’s words from a hit on TSN 1040 this afternoon.
McKenzie saying that “they’ve got plenty offers on the table right now” is no surprise to me. There is a lot of value in a player who can consistently put up 50+ points and 20-25+ goals every year.
Jordan Eberle, now in his eighth-season with the Oilers has been a face of scrutiny for some time. The winger has arguably been the team’s most consistent offensive threat since he arrived.
Many consider his last season to have been a down year which is true in some ways. Eberle was spotty this year having two-six game pointless stretches as well as one-seven game pointless stretch.
Despite this, he still put up a cool 20 goals and 31 assists in 82 games while playing 16:46 per night – the lowest TOI average of his career.
51 points was still good enough for third on the Oilers roster behind Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid.
Whether Jordan Eberle is a Edmonton Oiler or not next season, he will be a useful player in 2017-18. With the expansion draft coupled with teams facing cap issues, this is turning out to be one of the most interesting offseason in NHL history.
Options are there for the Oilers and some teams will have their hands tied due to the expansion draft. These next few days will sure prove to be interesting whether the Oilers make deals or not.
