The Edmonton Oilers will be trying to extend their season-opening win streak to four games on Thursday when they visit the New Jersey Devils as +105 road underdogs on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Edmonton kicked off its first road trip of the season in winning fashion on Tuesday, posting a decisive 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders as a +145 wager, and will be looking to open its schedule with four victories for the first time since 2008 in Thursday night’s game at the Prudential Center.

Oilers at Devils | OddsShark Matchup Report

Acquired in an offseason trade that sent Milan Lucic to Calgary, veteran James Neal has emerged as the Oilers’ early-season hero. The 32-year-old potted four goals in Tuesday night’s victory over the Islanders, and has now accounted for six of the 14 goals the club has scored during their 3-0-0 start.
However, the Oilers have struggled to generate much offence in recent visits to New Jersey, topping two goals just twice while averaging a meagre 1.9 goals per game in 10 road dates with the Devils since January 2004. Despite those offensive struggles, the Oilers have managed to eke out four wins during that stretch, and have held New Jersey to two or fewer goals in five of their past six visits, generating a 5-1 run for the UNDER in totals betting.
The Oilers’ fast start has yet to produce dividends for the club on the NHL futures. Edmonton continues to lag well behind the favourites as a lengthy +1000 bet to win the Pacific Division, and in the bottom half of the Stanley Cup odds at sports betting sites at +2800.
The Devils return home on Thursday after closing out a two-game road trip with a 4-0 loss in Philadelphia as +105 underdogs to remain winless through their first three outings of the season.
New Jersey took major steps to bolster its lineup after finishing last in the Metropolitan Division last season, most notably by trading for former Norris Trophy winner PK Subban and signing veteran Wayne Simmonds. A return to full health by Taylor Hall has also been expected to spur a Devils offence that ranked 26th in the NHL last season.
However, New Jersey has been dominated on both sides of the puck in the early going, getting outscored by 12-6 margin in their three losses.
