Edmonton Oilers’ Connor McDavid becomes fifth-fastest player to score 900 points

The best player of all time just hit another milestone.
On Tuesday evening, Connor McDavid scored his 14th goal of the season, as well as his 50th point on the year via an assist on Zach Hyman’s 22nd of the year. While he became the fifth player to hit the half-way-to-100 mark, his second point was extra important.
McDavid’s assist was his 900th point in the league, becoming the fifth-fastest to reach that plateau. Only Wayne Gretzky (385 games played), Mario Lemieux (463 games played), Mike Bossy (582 games played), and Peter Šťastný (599 games played) achieved this feat quicker.
Obviously, the millennium mark is the next logical step for McDavid to reach. After picking up five points in Edmonton’s win over Philadelphia, McDavid has 903 points across 602 games. Gretzky (424 games played) and Lemieux (513 games played) have already hit the 1,000 point mark in fewer games than McDavid has played. Bossy is next on the list with 656 games played, so it’s possible that McDavid gets to 1,000 points in fewer games.
It would take an outstanding second half of his year, but McDavid is no stranger to statistically crazy performances. Last season, he scored 64 goals and 153 points in 82 games (1.87 point-per-game pace). He’s a little bit off the mark this season (1.55 point-per-game pace), which is on pace for 123 points this season.
If he were to stay on this pace, that would give him 973 points in 649 games, so matching Bossy may not be feasible. However, McDavid will likely be the fourth fastest player to achieve the 1,000-point mark, as Šťastný achieved this milestone in his 682 games.
Either way, we’re truly blessed to watch McDavid, and even more so to have him on the Edmonton Oilers.
