Connor McDavid had a season for the record books.
In 56 games this year he scored 33 goals and 72 points for 105 points. With it he became the sixth player in NHL history to have five consecutive seasons of 30 goals and 60 assists.
But one of the most notable things this year was where he finished in terms of era-adjusted points.
Back in February, I wrote about how McDavid was already having one of the best seasons in NHL history. Looking at his era-adjusted points he was scoring 158 era-adjusted points, a pace he kept up all season.
With the regular season-ending this afternoon, McDavid will have finished with 159 era-adjusted points placing him in a tie with Wayne Gretzky for eighth all-time on the list. Teammate Leon Draisaitl finished a bit lower down the list with 127 era-adjusted points, tying him for 44th.
But for McDavid, it places him in elite company surrounding himself with names like Gretzky and Mario Lemieux — the only two modern-era NHL’ers to get close.
Let’s see what kind of magic he can cook up in the playoffs.
