Edmonton Oilers defenceman Cody Ceci played in his 600th game Thursday night.
The milestone for the journeyman of nine seasons came in a game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Ceci made his NHL debut on December 12th, 2013 a year and a half after being drafted 15th overall by the Ottawa Senators. Since then, Ceci has spent time with not just the Senators, but the Toronto Maple Leafs and Pittsburgh Penguins before joining the Oilers this year.
His most productive NHL season came in 2018-19 with the Senators where in 74 games he scored seven goals and 26 points.
Ceci’s journey to being a solid NHL’er has been a long one. With the Senators, he was often forced to play up the lineup where he struggled against top competition. Despite that, over the last three years outside of Ottawa, he’s played fewer minutes than he averaged with the Sens and has seen much more success.
This year with the Oilers has been no different. He’s quietly settled into his role as a stout defensive player and has been able to show his growth as a player over time.
