Edmonton Oilers loan defenceman Philip Broberg to Bakersfield Condors

The Edmonton Oilers have loaned defenceman Philip Broberg to the American Hockey League’s Bakersfield Condors.

Broberg, 20, has appeared in 22 games for the Oilers this season notching two assists.

He scored his second point of the year Tuesday night against the Detroit Red Wings.

The move signals that defenceman Kris Russell is likely to be activated from the long-term injured reserve, our own Jason Gregor noted.

In his rookie season in North America, Broberg has shown very well. With him on the ice at 5×5 this year, the Oilers have controlled 53.3 percent of the expected goal share, 33.33 percent of the goals scored (8 GF – 16 GA) and 48.44 percent of the expected goal share.

That goals number is obviously lower than you’d want to see but have a crushingly low 92.8 PDO. It shows that there’s significant room to improve in terms of his goal share and a lot of it is due to that PDO. An on-ice shooting percentage of 6.06 and an on-ice save percentage of 86.67 shows that.

In the American League, he’s appeared in 27 games scoring three goals and 19 points.
