We are getting closer to the playoffs in junior hockey, with most leagues less than a month away.
They got going a little earlier in the NCAA with their conference postseasons, but the big dance doesn’t start until early April. Selection for the tournament is announced this Sunday so let’s hope to see some of our prospects there.
Here’s some quick news: Xavier Bourgault still hasn’t been seen for a while now. After getting hurt at the World Juniors, Bourgault has only played in one game for Shawinigan.
Filip Enagaras also signed a deal to play for the Bakersfield Condors on an amateur contract until the end of the season. After that, his two-year deal with the Condors is activated.
As for the rest of the prospects, let’s look to see what they’ve been up to.

Marody Shines In Bakersfield Victory

Cooper Marody is somebody Oilers fans have wanted to see in Edmonton on a most consistent basis. It hasn’t happened yet, but Marody continued his case to be in the NHL on Wednesday. He scored a hat trick in Bakersfield’s 5-1 win over the Stockton Heat, the Calgary Flames AHL affiliate. Brendan Perlini assisted on all three of his goals. Marody has now scored 19 goals behind only Seth Griffith.
It wasn’t all glory for the Condors against the Heat this week. Bakersfield lost 3-1 to them on Monday night. Dylan Holloway scored the lone goal in that game for his seventh of the season.
Last Friday, they were shutout 3-0 to the San Diego Gulls.
Stuart Skinner started both games against Stockton and finished with a 0.947 save percentage.

Savoie and Denver head to the Frozen Faceoff

I wrote earlier this week how Carter Savoie was debating on where he would be playing next season.
However, his main focus is getting the University of Denver a championship. He helped the Pioneers edge closer to that goal by taking down the University of Miami (Ohio). Denver beat Miami 5-2 and then 5-1 in a quick two-game series.
Savoie got two assists in game two to take his assist total to 22 and his points to 42.
This afternoon, Savoie and the Pioneers take on the University of Minnesota-Duluth in the Frozen Frozen semi-finals.

Lachance finds scoring touch.

I mentioned Shane Lachance earlier this season after he had a good offensive week. Since then, he hasn’t contributed much on the stat sheet until as of late.
Over the weekend, he found that scoring finish. Lachance scored three goals in two games for the Youngstown Phantoms and picked up an assist.
He’s now up to nine goals and 18 points in his rookie year in the USHL. The Oilers selected him in the sixth round of last year’s draft, so he has plenty of time to develop into his 6’4” frame.
Next season, he is committed to playing in his home state of Massachusetts with Boston University.
